On a less than frigid evening in Chicago, the trio known as Savoy, enters frame. Ben rocking his dope rock star look with his slick hat and shades, and Gray rocking the ‘Colorado’ look with a rockin’ beard and beanie cap. Mike Kelly sits behind the drums and seconds later we get treated with one of the best songs Savoy has released to date. They started out with their infamous intro mashup, Savoy & The Knocks, “Devils on Horseback x Brightside (Savoy Bootleg)”. The lasers were shining bright and the girls were dressed to dance–and dance they did.
Savoy always puts on an excellent live show with their insane lasers, but most forget to mention how Savoy differs from most electronic acts. Ben, Mike, and Gray started Savoy out as a rock band and slowly turned it into a electronic dance/rock band. The trio continues to be the only electronic act to be sponsored by Gibson Guitars, because of their captivating live shows.
I was so excited to see them live again, this being only the 4th time seeing them. It’s been three years since I have been able to see them live. They dropped a few of my older favorites including their Daft Punk mashup, their song “So Bad Ft. Heather Bright” and their Wolfgang Gartner x Rage Against the Machine closer. They also played at least two of their new tracks off of the 1000 Light Years EP, “Love Is Killing Me Ft. Chali 2na,” and “Your Time Ft. KIELY”. I know now that I won’t be missing Savoy the next time they come to Chicago. Whatever your taste in music is, whether it’s rock, techno, or electro, you will find it with Savoy.
